Ode to a Skunk

You smell. You’re foul. You reek. You’re ripe.
Too bad, ‘cause you look like the cuddly type.

You’re fetid. You’re funky. You’re putrid. You’re rank.
You stink—and tomorrow I’ll say you stank.

You’re odorous, rancid, revolting, and gross.
Your tail goes up and I say, “Adios!”

About the Author

Author of the art appreciation series, Bob Raczka’s Art Adventures, Bob studied art and advertising in college. He has worked as an advertising writer for 30+ years.

His first poetry book, Guyku: A Year of Haiku for Boys, was awarded the Claudia Lewis Award by Bank Street College. His book of concrete poetry, Wet Cement, received five starred reviews. And his picture book about abstract art, Niko Draws a Feeling, was a Charlotte Zolotow Honor Book.

Bob and his wife Amy have three grown children, Robert, Carl and Emma, plus two dogs, Penny and Pippa. Bob loves golf and the Cubs.
